The study area is the hydrogeological basin of the Madonie Mountains; it has been divided in four hydrogeological sub-basins (Monte Quacella, Monte dei Cervi, Pizzo Carbonara-Pizzo Dipilo and Pizzo Catarineci).
Geochemical methods have been a useful tools for understanding processes altering the quality of groundwaters during their flow, such as the interactions between host rocks and groundwater and pollution coming from human activities. Records include: chemical-physical parameteres, major elements, minor elements and trace elements composition of water collected from 9 springs, 5 drainage galleries and 3 wells in the 2004-2005. This study is part of the Water Protection Plan of the Sicilian Regional Government.
