The spatial base of the NCSCD is a polygon database describing soils in the northern circumpolar permafrost regions. The database was compiled by combining and homogenizing several regional/national soil maps. To calculate storage of soil organic carbon, these soil maps have been linked to field-data on soil organic carbon storage from a total of 1,647 sites from around the circumpolar permafrost region. The NCSCD contains information on fractions of coverage of different soil types (following U.S. Soil Taxonomy nomenclature) as well as storage of soil organic carbon (kg/m2) between 0-30 cm and 0-100 cm depth. The NCSCD is available either as a polygon-based database (which is the original format) or converted to gridded data. Gridded data products are available in different spatial grid resolutions and in formats adapted for use in desktop GIS-applications and model applications. A comparative study of three burial grounds on Åland, in Finland and in Sweden, an unpublished MA dissertation at the University of Leicester. The data collection comprises a database with details of sizes, shapes and inscription details for 304 memorials and the commemoration details for 440 people from cemeteries in Norrtälje, Sweden (Norrtälje kyrkogård); Mariehamn, Åland, Finland (Mariehamns begavningsplats) and Pargas, Finland (Pargas kyrkogård) from the years 1881 - 1939. In the accompanying files are photographs of each memorial, of the cemeteries and notes on methodology. The data is licensed under Creative Commons Licence CC BY 3.0 which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited. Purpose: These data were collected for an MA dissertation, in order to explore ideas of Ålandic identity through the material culture of memorialisation, as well as to test the possibilities for Nordic archaeologies of memorialisation. The XLS file comprises a database covering all three cemeteries. The ZIP file "Database NOR MAR PAR" contains the database in three separate CSV files, one for each cemetery. The remaining ZIP files contain JPG format photographs from the cemeteries in Norrtälje, Mariehamn and Pargas respectively. These photos are downsized versions of the original pictures. One of the areas covered in this election study was newspaper reading habits, including questions on type of paper, which party the paper favors, and if the respondent subscribes or buys single copies of the paper. Questions were asked as to which topics were most interesting: crime, political news, international news, sports, editorials, and economics. Other questions dealt with exposure to election pamphlets and election programs in radio and television. There are also a number of questions concerning the respondent´s opinion in various political issues, such as state control over private enterprises, aid to developing-countries and social reforms. Purpose: Explain why people vote as they do and why an election ends in a particular way. Track and follow trends in the Swedish electoral democracy and make comparisons with other countries. Valundersökningen 1960 är den andra riksomfattande studien i serien undersökningar kring partival, valdeltagande och politisk opinionsbildning inom den svenska valmanskåren i samband med ett riksdagsval. Liksom den tidigare undersökningen genomfördes den i samarbete mellan statsvetenskapliga institutionen vid Göteborgs universitet och statistiska centralbyrån. Genom att ställa frågor till ett för valmanskåren representativt urval av individer kan man få upplysningar om de intervjuades partisympatier och dessa uppgifter kan sedan kombineras med andra uppgifter t.ex beträffande sociala bakgrundsfaktorer såsom yrke, kön, civilstånd, inkomst mm. Därigenom kan skillnader med avseende på partiernas relativa styrkeförhållanden inom olika befolkningsgrupper på ett mera direkt sätt belysas. Vidare har i undersökningen medtagits ett antal frågor beträffande programverksamheten i radio och television inför valet, om partiernas propagandabroschyrer samt om vissa andra propagandamedel, varigenom det blivit möjligt att sammanställa uppgifter om intresset för den inför valet förekommande propagandan inom skilda befolkningsgrupper. Dessutom finns ett antal intervjufrågor som avser att ge en bild av informationsnivån inom valmanskåren beträffande dels vissa allmänna politiska förhållanden, dels partiernas ståndpunkter i bestämda sakfrågor. Den information om individerna som man erhöll genom intervjusvaren kompletterades med uppgifter från mantalslängder och röstlängderna för 1958 års kommunalval, 1960 års andrakammarval samt 1962 års kommunalval. Därjämte har 1960 års inkomsttaxeringslängd utnyttjats för information om intervjupersonernas inkomster; beträffande gifta intervjupersoner medtogs också uppgifter om makens/makans inkomst. The project was the working title. Purpose: Comparisons between different cultures and countries in terms of socialization into sport Detta är den svenska delen av ett internationellt forskningsprojekt där ca femton olika länder deltog. Syftet med projektet som helhet var att göra jämförelser mellan olika kulturer och länder vad gäller socialisation till idrott. I detta syfte ingick bland annat att: a) kartlägga omfattningen och i vilken grad som individer socialiseras till olika samhällens idrottssystem; b) försöka förklara socialisationsprocessen till idrottssystemet så som den gestaltar sig för elitidrottare och folk i allmänhet; c) undersöka om graden av socialisation till idrott varierar mellan olika länder. Det svenska frågeformuläret - en nedbantad version av det kanadensiska originalformuläret - var indelat i tre huvuddelar. Den första delen utgjordes av retrospektiva frågor om idrott och fritidsförhållanden i åldern 7-12 år (grundskolans låg- och mellanstadium). Andra delen av formuläret behandlade individens nuvarande situation (15-16 år) vad gäller idrott och fritid och i den tredje delen fanns en del frågor om attityder till idrott samt frågor som täckte av bakgrundsfaktorer av olika slag. Flera av frågorna i första och andra delen av formuläret var identiska. Skillnaden var bara att i det första fallet gällde att tänka sig tillbaka i tiden vid besvarandet av frågorna medan det i den andra delen avsåg den aktuella situationen. Undersökningens viktigaste frågeområden var: Aktivt och passivt idrottsintresse; Intresse för och deltagande i tävlingsidrott; Favoritidrotter och idrottsidoler; Faktorer som påverkat intresse för och deltagande i idrott; Egen idrottskapacitet; Medlemskap i idrottsföreningar och andra föreningar; Motiv för att idrotta respektive att inte hålla på med idrott; Inställning till olympiska spel; Bakgrundsvariabler såsom nationalitet, födelseort, faderns yrke, föräldrarnas utbildning, typ av bostad, antal syskon m.m. A mail questionnaire, framed in collaboration with the information department of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities, was sent to all local governments. The questionnaire included questions on information papers and other summaries of local service and activities, information bureaus and local advertising. Other questions dealt with information to immigrants and other groups in society. Purpose: Provide a current picture of the Swedish municipalities actions to inform the general public Under sjuttiotalet var kommunsammanslagningarna och den kommunala verksamhetens expansion två bidragande orsaker till det ökade behovet av kommunal information. Vidare har i undersökningen medtagits ett antal frågor beträffande programverksamheten i radio och television inför valet, om partiernas propagandabroschyrer samt om vissa andra propagandamedel, varigenom det blivit möjligt att sammanställa uppgifter om intresset för den inför valet förekommande propagandan inom skilda befolkningsgrupper. Dessutom finns ett antal intervjufrågor som avser att ge en bild av a) väljarnas kännedom om politiska förhållanden och institutioner, b) under vilka betingelser som väljarna tillägnar sig sina inställningar till de politiska partierna, tex inflytande från föräldrahemmet och den ömsesidiga påverkan som äger rum inom familjen, på arbetsplatserna och i bekantskapskretsar, c) hur väljarnas inställning till partierna påverkas av deras åsikter om politiska sakfrågor (t.ex skattepolitik och socialpolitik) och av deras personliga erfarenheter från områden som kan påverkas genom politiska åtgärder (t.ex bostadsbrist och full sysselsättning). 1964 års valundersökning var den första undersökningen i en trestegs panelundersökning där undersökningspersonerna återintervjuades vid 1968 och 1970 års riksdagsval. Den information om individerna som man erhöll genom intervjusvaren kompletterades med uppgifter från mantalslängder och röstlängderna för 1962 års kommunalval och 1964 års andrakammarval. Därjämte har 1964 års inkomsttaxeringslängd utnyttjats för information om intervjupersonernas inkomster; beträffande gifta intervjupersoner medtogs också uppgifter om makens/makans inkomst. The pre-election schedule contained questions regarding interest in the election and attention to election programs in radio, and also about the respondent´s newspaper reading habits. The respondent had to point out possible retrenchment sectors and to indicate the sectors in which cuts should not be made in public expenditure, and also point out other areas for political change. Questions about trade union affiliation, union activity and opinion of the union, membership in temperance societies, free churches and church attendance were asked. The respondent had to give a prediction for the election outcome and the respondent´s political knowledge was measured through photography identification. Other questions dealt with direction and strength of party identification and political history of respondent and the respondent´s father, respondent´s interest in politics and especially the interest in the election 1956, opinion on the political parties, and degree of political interaction with family and friends. The post-election interview concentrated on the election campaign and the actual vote, when the respondent decided how to vote, if she/he changed party since last election and if this was influenced of family or friends, but there were also questions about the war risk in Europe, especially the threat of the atomic bomb, and about the Swedish defense. ORVESTO surveys covering a twenty-year period, 1972-1991, are available at SND. In the 1978 survey, respondents were asked to state their reading habits regarding fifteen different daily newspapers, weekdays and weekends respectively. They were also asked to state their reading habits regarding almost fifty newspapers from the weekly and monthly press. Other questions were about the household's ownership of a number of capital goods such as a car, camera, projector, washing machine, dishwasher, etc., and whether there were dogs, cats, aquarium fish or caged birds in the household. A group of questions was about purchasing habits and purchasing intentions for a number of products. A number of questions about personal interests were introduced with "Human interests are different. How interested are you in the following subjects and activities?" The respondent was then asked how interested he/she is in buying food, cooking, having guests, leisure activities, etc. There is information on the respondent's gender, marital status, age, income, occupation, education and residence as well as on the size of the household, age structure and total household income. Sweden Now 1978 is almost a complete replication of the previous year. A novelty for this survey is that the respondents were asked to state whether they agreed or disagreed with a number of statements about lifestyle. The number of questions about how often different stores are visited has been increased, while the questions about decision-making rights in the household have been removed. The surveys are called 'Sweden Now', but the data bank is marketed under the name ORVESTO. The name ORVESTO indicates the aim of covering many media groups: OR as in the organisational press, VE as in the weekly press and STO as in the metropolitan press. ORVESTO surveys covering a twenty-year period, 1972-1991, are available at SND. In the 1979 survey, respondents were asked to state their reading habits regarding fifteen different daily newspapers, weekdays and weekends respectively. They were also asked to state their reading habits regarding almost fifty newspapers from the weekly and monthly press. Other questions were about the household's ownership of capital goods such as a car, camera, projector, washing machine, dishwasher, etc., and whether there were dogs, cats, aquarium fish or caged birds in the household. A group of questions was about purchasing habits and purchasing intentions for several products. A number of questions about personal interests were introduced with "Human interests are different. How interested are you in the following subjects and activities?" The respondent was then asked how interested he/she is in buying food, cooking, having guests, leisure activities, etc. There is information on the respondent's gender, marital status, age, income, occupation, education and residence as well as on the size of the household, age structure and total household income. The main part of Sweden Now 1979 is replicated from previous years. New for this survey are a number of questions that deal with the respondent's ability to influence purchasing at the workplace. Furthermore the variations in sea passenger traffic, i.e. yearly incomes for 66 passenger vessels in domestic traffic during the period of 1860 to 1920. Above this there is information on opening and closing hours per year of Göta Kanal and Trollhätte Kanal and the person kilometers of the railways. Undersökningen tar upp skjutstrafikens variationer, dvs antalet utgångna hästar per år i hela riket och i olika län (1855-1906) samt i fögderier och vid enskilda gästgivargårdar (omkr. 1820-1920). Dessutom behandlas fartygspassagerartrafikens variationer, dvs årliga inkomster för 66 passagerarfartyg i inrikes trafik under perioden 1860-1920. The survey was conducted as a sample survey in two stages. Stage 1 consisted of a postal questionnaire, the purpose of which was to identify individuals who had undertaken a longer private trip during a certain period of time and were thus assumed to have made a choice of means of transport. Stage 2 consisted of a personal interview with a selection of these individuals. Long-distance travel refers here to trips of at least 100 kilometres one-way. Private travel means all trips, except business, work commuting, educational and military service trips. Longer private trips that connect to charter trips abroad are also included. The survey only studies trips within the Nordic countries. The interview contained questions about the purpose of the trip, number of nights spent away, type of means of transport and which company you travelled with. The respondent was also asked to indicate whether they had considered other means of transport and what importance cost, and travel time had on the choice of means of transport. Forskningsprojektet 'Färdmedelsval vid långväga personresor' genomfördes på uppdrag av Transportforskningsdelegationen (TFD) och syftet var att klarlägga vilka faktorer som påverkar valet av färdmedel vid långväga privata personresor. Undersökningen genomfördes som en urvalsundersökning i två steg. Steg 1 utgjordes av en postal enkät, vars syfte var att urskilja individer som under en viss tidsperiod genomfört en längre privatresa och därmed antas ha gjort ett färdmedelsval. Steg 2 utgjordes av en personlig intervju med ett urval av dessa individer. Med långväga resor avses här resor på minst 10 mil enkel resa. Med privatresa menas alla resor, förutom tjänste-, arbetspendlings-, utbildnings- och värnpliktsresor. Även längre privatresor som ansluter till charterresor till utlandet medräknas. Undersökningen studerar endast resor inom de nordiska länderna. Intervjun innehöll frågor om resans ändamål, antal nätter man varit bortrest, typ av transportmedel samt vilket bolag man rest med. This study also introduces the left-right scale, a ten degree scale on which the respondent positions the political parties according to the respondent´s opinion of the party as a left-wing, centre or right-wing party. According to this law trade unions have the right to be informed about all circumstances that are, or could be, of importance for the members of the union. The unions have the right to express their opinions on almost every important question at 'the establishment'. This is allowed for in a special type of negotiation. An employer has after negotiations however the right to make a decision without bothering about the union's opinion. This law is supposed to regulate the unions rights to participate in the decision making process at the establishment. It is an important part of the complex system of formal norms that regulates the relations between trade unions and employers in Sweden. The research project 'Work, Unions and participation' studied how local actors - unions and employers - have adapted to this system of norms. This study is composed of two survey studies, designed as a panel study. The population is restricted to following branches: manufacturing, trade, transports and communications, education, social welfare and public health. The sample size is about 500 establishments, which means 25% of the population. Two types of questionnaires were sent to respondents at these places of work. One was sent to the local leadership, which was usually answered by the local manager or an equivalent person, one questionnaire was sent to each of the trade unions which were active at the place of work. This data description contains datasets for: Work, Unions and Co-determination 1981 – Trade Union Work, Unions and Co-determination 1981 – Establishment Work, Unions and Co-determination 1979 – Trade Union Work, Unions and Co-determination 1979 – Establishment År 1977 trädde en ny lag i kraft i Sverige, kallad ”Medbestämmandelagen” (MBL). Enligt denna lag har fackföreningar rätt att bli informerade om alla omständigheter som är, eller kan vara, av betydelse för medlemmarna. Fackföreningarna har rätt att framföra sina synpunkter i nästan varje viktig fråga på arbetsplatsen. Detta sker inom ramen för en särskild typ av förhandling. Arbetsgivaren har dock, efter genomförda förhandlingar, rätt att fatta beslut utan att behöva ta hänsyn till fackföreningens uppfattning. Lagen syftar till att reglera fackföreningarnas rätt att delta i beslutsprocessen på arbetsplatsen. Den utgör en viktig del av det komplexa system av formella normer som reglerar relationerna mellan fackföreningar och arbetsgivare i Sverige. Forskningsprojektet ”Work, Unions and Participation” undersökte hur lokala aktörer – fackföreningar och arbetsgivare – har anpassat sig till detta normsystem. In the 1977 survey the respondents had to indicate their reading habits concerning fifteen different daily papers, weekdays and weekends respectively. Other questions dealt with the household´s possession of a number of capital goods such as, car, camera, projector, washing machine, dishwasher, etc. and also if there were any dogs, cats, aquarium fishes or cagebirds in the household. A group of questions is dealing with buying habits and purchasing intentions for a number of products, as well as how frequently different shops are visited. A number of questions about personal interests are introduced by ´Human interests are different. How great is your interest for the following subjects and activities´. Subsequently the respondent is asked how interested he/she is in buying food, cooking, having guests, leisure time activities, etc. There is information about the respondent´s gender, marital status, age, income, occupation, education and housing, and also about the household´s size, age structure, and total income of household. At the same time the press was monitored for the same questions, see SSD 0079 ´The press and nuclear power 1976´. 1970-talets diskussioner kring den framtida energiförsörjningen och kärnkraften inleddes i endräktens tecken. Samtliga partier ställde sig bakom riksdagsbesluten 1970 och 1971 om att Sverige skulle bygga 11 kärnkraftsaggregat. Den partipolitiska enheten bröts först på våren 1973 då Thorbjörn Fälldin och centerns riksdagsgrupp tog ställning mot kärnkraften. Oljekrisen satte ett halvår senare energifrågorna i centrum för den politiska debatten och en intensiv opinionsbildningsprocess inleddes. De politiska partierna engagerade sig t ex under hösten 1974 i en rådslagsverksamhet med sina medlemmar för att informera om energiproblemen och pejla opinionsströmningarna. Under denna period utformades partiernas energipolitiska program. I maj 1975, när riksdagen fattade beslut om energiplanen för den närmaste 10-årsperioden fram till 1985, avslutades den första fasen i den politiska process som inletts två år tidigare. Frontlinjerna var upprättade och båda sidor hade formerat sina styrkor. Socialdemokraterna och moderaterna förordade en utbyggnad av kärnkraften och ville bygga 13 aggregat. Även folkpartiet var för en satsning på kärnkraften men ville, i enlighet med 1971 års riksdagsbeslut, inte bygga fler än 11 aggregat. Centern och vänsterpartiet kommunisterna gick däremot emot en utbyggnad av kärnkraften och centerpartiet förordade en avvecklingsplan för de aggregat som redan var i drift. Undersökningens frågeställningar berör väljarnas reaktioner inför den energipolitiska debatten och inför den partipolitiska konflikten om kärnkraftens utbyggnad. Undersökningen genomfördes i två steg med en intervjuomgång före valet och en andra efter valet. Cirka 1 000 personer intervjuades under två veckor i augusti och ungefär 1500 under tre veckor i september och oktober. Efter valet skickades en postenkät till de personer som intervjuats före valet med frågor om vilket parti man röstat på och vid vilken tidpunkt man bestämde sig för att stödja det parti man röstade på. Twenty daily newspapers were analysed during five weeks in the autumn 1976. The papers analysed were chosen after their political preferences in order to represent the different views of the major political parties. The study includes 2807 editorials, articles, advertisements and other materials containing views on the use of nuclear power. I studiet av kärnkraftsfrågan i valet 1976 ingår två undersökningar, dels en intervjuundersökning av väljarna - Väljarna och kärnkraften - dels föreliggande undersökning som är en innehållsanalys av energidebatten i massmedia. Datainsamlingen innefattar en systematisk genomgång av 20 dagstidningar under fem veckor hösten 1976. Totalt registrerades 2807 ledare, nyhetsartiklar, insändare, annonser, krönikor m.m. som innehöll stoff kring kärnkraften eller energiproblemen i allmänhet. Enkätens kvalitet har prövats - bortfallens jämnhet mot tillgängliga registerdata och föregående enkäters karakteristika, svarens inbördes logik och fullständighet. There is information about the respondent´s gender, marital status, age, income, occupation, education and housing, and also about the household´s size, age structure, and total income of household. This is the first of the election studies to include a feeling thermometer, where the respondent has to position each of the political parties, as well as the party leaders, on a scale from -5 (dislikes very much) to +5 (likes very much). Since this study is the first that took place after a period of non-Social Democratic government, the respondent has to give a judgement over the two formations of Government (the three-party government 1976-1978 and the liberal government 1978-1979) which took place during this period, as well as an individual judgement of each of the parties in power and of the Social Democratic party as a opposition party. Two issues with special interest in this study are nuclear power and wage-earners´ investment fund. Purpose: Explain why people vote as they do and why an election ends in a particular way. Primarily the study is about the imagination of advertisements, but the study also deals with the interplay between the content of the advertisement and other parts of the world of ideas in society, and between the content of advertisement and the material development. The content analyse is divided into three parts; the description of people in advertisements (sex, age, occupation, relations, etc.); environments occurring in the advertisements; statements about the product, and rhetoric used to influence buying the product. Undersökningen ingår som ett delprojekt inom det tvärvetenskapliga forskningsprogrammet 'Kulturindikatorer: Svensk symbolmiljö 1945-1975'. Innehållsanalysen innefattar tre uppsättningar av variabler, en gäller annonsernas framställning av personer (kön, ålder, sysselsättningar, relationer osv.), den andra handlar om de miljöer som förekommer i annonserna, och den tredje behandlar de påståenden som görs i annonserna om varans egenskaper och de retoriska medel som används för att påverka till köp av varan. Undersökningsvariablerna hänför sig i några enstaka fall till antingen texten eller bilderna, men i princip är det annonsen i dess helhet, dvs text och bild sammantagna, som utgör analysenheten. The survey consists of five part studies, with fairly similar variables, carried out on various levels in the trade union structure and on journalists working with labour issues. Purpose: The aim of the study is to investigate how the union was ruled during the period and how its internal democracy worked. Studien undersöker den svenska fackföreningsrörelsens interna demokrati. Leif Lewin, professor i statsvetenskap vid Uppsala universitet, testar genom undersökningen den demokratimodell han arbetat fram i tidigare forskning. Empiriskt material har samlats in med enkäter som skickats till över 3 000 medlemmar och förtroendevalda på olika nivåer i 50 avdelningar inom LO-anslutna fackförbund. Genom fem delstudier har information samlats in från medlemmar, avdelningsstyrelseledamöter, sektionsstyrelseledamöter, förbundsstyrelse- och landssekretariatledamöter samt journalister och opinionsbildare. Syftet med undersökningen var att kartlägga vilka samband som finns mellan anställdas arbetssituation/arbetsförhållanden och deras uppfattning av och inställning till olika typer av samhällsförändring. En viktig del av undersökningen var utnyttjandet av s.k. hotbilder. Materialet samlades in i två steg, där det första utgörs av ett frågeformulär som besvarades av 1294 respondenter. Data on class-related experiences such as unemployment and union participation were also collected, as well as data on the division of power and labour in the household. In addition the survey contained a broad range of questions on social and political attitudes and the respondents political participation. The study is part of the multinational study ´Class Structure and Class Consciousness´ (ICPSR 8413), which includes almost identificial studies from United States, Norway, Canada, and Finland.
